haleyphotography.ca Wedding and Portrait Photography Thu, 07 Jan 2016 05:05:54 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.4.1 Goodbye 2015 and Hello 2016! /?p=4688 /?p=4688#respond Thu, 31 Dec 2015 20:21:38 +0000 /?p=4688 This past year marked some big changes in my life. At the beginning of the year I had decided to give my 2 weeks notice to my part-time office job. Between photography and the office job I was working full-time. It was decided awhile ago by myself and my husband that we had agreed at some point I would stay home with our boys and I would just work ONE part-time job. May 1st was my last day at my desk job and it was the right time to take on the world of operating my own small business. Being a self-taught wedding photographer has had its challenges and in looking at this past year of work, recognition, and clients it has been amazing! Today is the last day of the year and it is traditional to set goals for the New Year. In the past I would write them down on a piece of paper or on a blog post but I found it never really worked for me or it would make me sad if I didn’t accomplish something I set out to do. In 2014 I did not write any specific goals for 2015 and it has been a great year. I learn from my mistakes and will continue to try new things to see where it will take me next. Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for your support! Of course I have to post some images and wanted to share some of the photos captured during our family trip to Bahamas and my mother/daughter trip to New York City.

New York City Central Park Anniversary Photography /?p=4672 /?p=4672#respond Thu, 17 Dec 2015 16:42:37 +0000 /?p=4672 In October I traveled to New York City with my mom to attend Julie Paisley Click and Chat workshop. It was a wonderful experience meeting someone who’s work I admire and feel inspired by. Bonus that I could spend it with someone I love! If you are wondering what did I learn during my workshop experience. I learned that I am confident in myself and style and how I pose couples. I learned that even though my camera malfunctioned and one of my dials was not working, I was still able to capture beautiful images (even if I had to go the long way around with setting my buttons). I learned that I really need to put my fears aside and just be me and not be afraid of what other people might think of me. What I think makes Julie Paisley, is she does not pretend to be anyone else but herself. With big hugs when you first meet her to letting you know her own struggles of feeling like she was doing too much. Cheers to being different, standing out and doing what you love!

Colourful Skyloft Ajax Wedding /?p=4552 /?p=4552#respond Mon, 16 Nov 2015 17:19:44 +0000 /?p=4552 It could not have been a more beautiful day and setting on top of the rolling hills of the Skyloft venue in Ajax. Amanda and Colin have been together for 10 years and family and friends were so happy to see this day finally here. It is amazing to think that Amanda and Colin were referred to us by one of our first wedding couples Laura and her husband Ryan. We had actually met Amanda and Colin at their wedding when we had a photo-booth set up. Amanda and Colin’s wedding was a bright Scottish traditional wedding with rustic and sunflower touches. Congratulations to Amanda and Colin and we wish many more years together making each other laugh and attending those Oshawa General’s hockey games.

Venue: Skyloft, Ajax

Florist: Violet Blooms

Cake: Frostings by Judy

Bridal Gown: David’s Bridal

Kilt: Wee Tartan Shop

Officiant: Ray Cross

Savvy and Sassy Bridal Show – Wedding Booth Display /?p=4535 /?p=4535#respond Thu, 29 Oct 2015 13:25:47 +0000 /?p=4535 This past weekend was my first time registering for a wedding show and I probably went overboard with my booth space but my goal is to prepare myself for bigger shows like Wedlux one day. I thought it would be a good way to network and potentially meet new brides. Adding up all my receipts for the items I bought to prepare myself for the show I spent $750. To rent my space was $600, so if I book at least one bride it was well worth my time and investment. I really enjoyed working with these local businesses; D.M.J Construction helped construct my blackboard display, Bloomin’ Crazy created the beautiful florals, She’s Over the Moon provided me with decorations and display holder and Brooklin Canvas printed large prints of my work. My large pull-up canvas banners I created on Vistaprint and it was delivered on a timely manner. Overall I was happy with my decision to go into the show and would recommend to anyone considering to showcase their wedding services to join the Savvy and Sassy Bridal Show.

Pingle’s Farm and Market Anniversary Shoot /?p=4518 /?p=4518#respond Wed, 28 Oct 2015 17:17:59 +0000 /?p=4518 Halloween is one of my favourite holidays! I love dressing up and dancing all night to popular pop songs or hosting halloween best costume house parties. I have never had a chance to take pictures at a pumpkin farm and was excited when Laura and her husband Paul agreed to having their photos taken at Pingle’s Farm in Courtice.

Laura and Paul  will be celebrating 7 years of marriage in July. They first met when Laura was 14 and Paul was 19 at the time through a mutual friend, but did not consider the possibility of a relationship with Paul. So off to University Laura went until around the time Laura was 19 she was visiting from British Columbia on a school break at the Royal York Hotel with a group of friends, when a “chance encounter” in the lobby she was standing in front of Paul.  Quiet, but confident and just as cute as she remembered when she was 14 years old.  Conversation flowed so easily and before she knew it they had exchanged email addresses and was back at school in BC dreaming once again of that cute boy! 6 years they made a long distance relationship work, with visits back and forth whenever they could.  Over the years they created a relationship based on strong communication, trust and unconditional love- values that have made the last 7 years some of the most incredible years of their lives.

Port Hope Golf Club – Penryn Park Estate Wedding /?p=4059 /?p=4059#comments Sun, 18 Oct 2015 17:56:38 +0000 /?p=4059 Oh young love! Matt and Tess were the sweetest couple and their wedding day was nothing short of amazing. The theme was elegance meets nature with potted plants and birch logs. The venue at Port Hope Golf Club, Penryn Park was perfect and Tess’s blush wedding dress was jaw dropping gorgeous. What really stood out for us was the love and kindness the whole family had for each other. I know I probably say this a lot but we truly felt like part of the family and it was an honour to capture Matt and Tess’s beautiful wedding.

Toronto Professional Head Shots and Branding with Plan My Day Wedding and Events /?p=4041 /?p=4041#respond Mon, 05 Oct 2015 22:45:22 +0000 /?p=4041 It was my first time photographing at the Art Gallery of Ontario. My favourite space was the Gehry-designed spiral stairwell in Walker Court. The staff were great to work with and very accommodating. Would definitely be a dream come true to photograph a wedding at the AGO in Toronto.

When Gaitree first asked me to help her with her professional photos we chatted on the phone about key words that would best describe her business.

Light, Fun, Clean and Fresh

White background and muted colours

Minimalist and modern

These were the key words we came up with. Our next step was creating a vision board with Pinterest so we could coordinate together the little details for styled shots. It is great to have professional head shots, but also detail images can help with creating a cohesive look/brand on websites and social media. First impressions are important so it is always a good idea to refresh and update your look to market to your clientele you want to work with.

I loved working with Gaitree of Plan My Day Wedding and Events! She is an amazing certified wedding planner and is very quick to think of solutions. Especially when you forget to bring something.

So you want your wedding to be Pinterest Famous! /?p=3871 /?p=3871#respond Tue, 25 Aug 2015 16:11:45 +0000 /?p=3871 With a busy wedding season in full swing here are a few tips to help improve your chances in seeing your wedding of your dreams pinned to Pinterest. With 70% of Pinterest users now pinning to their wedding boards you can help future brides be inspired by your very own wedding.

As far as Pinterest is concerned, DETAILS are the most important part of your wedding day and there are some things you should not DIY.

1.Hire a professional calligrapher for those chalkboard signs (www.lovelettering.ca) and graphic designers for invitations.

2. Invest in a florist and cake designer. Expect to pay up to $1000 plus.

3. Hire a professional decorator or stylist to help add to those details and to ensure they are displayed beautifully.

4. Consider unique venues, details, and colour inspiration not often seen, used or found. When a bride tells me she has a colour combination for their wedding they cannot find inspiration even on Pinterest that is a good sign you are stepping outside the box and on your way in creating a unique wedding.

5. Of course the most important thing to help make sure your wedding is “Pinterest Famous” is to hire a professional wedding photographer who has been featured in wedding magazines and blogs. With all of the details you have now invested in please remember to give time in your wedding day schedule to your professional photographer to capture those details. This means they are not taking pictures of family, guest or the funny moments that maybe happening on your day for about an hour or two. Some photographers work in teams which means you can have the two photographers split up at certain times of the day to capture family moments and details.

Here are some wedding vendors you should check to help you with your details. :)
